Upstate excursion

The night we got home from Pennsylvania (the lake house),  I booked another trip to upstate.  We missed (still miss) traveling so so so much but still are only willing to do trips in a way different way.

For both trips, we booked an AirBnb and planned our trips around low traffic areas and skipped the tourist stuff. We found a loft right in the middle of town above a shop.  It couldn’t have been a better location.  And, as a total bonus, the police cars were purple!  Shea’s favorite color (this week!!) We did a lot of hikes.  These boys hiked 6 miles on the first day up some pretty decent inclines to end at a waterfall.  It was pretty cute watching them splash around there.  Cole had a mission to get under the waterfall… he did it.  He was so proud and basically talked about it the whole 3 miles back. The others were less aggressive but still had waterfalls though not as impressive as the first.

On our way up, we broke up the trip by stopping at Untermyer Gardens. It was very pretty and open and also hot so we only took about an hour and a half there but it was still a nice break.

We stayed in Saugerties which was cute and very small.  From our home base, we visited Woodstock, Tannersville, and Rhinebeck.  We also hit Amenia on the way home to the most hilarious spot.  It’s an Italian restaurant owned by Greek brothers but it’s also a drive-in movie and a little playground and a weird eclectic collection of artifacts like old cars and stuff.  The food was pretty good too though the highlight was definitely the uniqueness of the place.

So, we loved it so much that we are headed back up again in a few weeks.  The upstate scene is just really beautiful.
